One Act of Kindness:

My Story of the Ladybug The ladybug has always been very special to me. My grandmother on my mother's side passed away before I was born. At her funeral, a ladybug showed up and flitted from person and person. Someone said "Oh, there's Bernadette making sure everything's done right". It stuck. As I was growing up, any time I saw a ladybug my mother said, "Look. There's your grandmother making sure you're all right". The ladybug symbolizes for me love, safety and security. I'm never alone as long as there are ladybugs. When it came time to decide what cause to donate the proceeds of this special project to, I immediately thought of children and young adults who have virtually no family. Maybe some day, through our help and the help of others, they will experience the same sense of love, safety and security that I grew up taking for granted. |
On
February 21, 2008, I received $5.00 from my employers with instructions to
use it to commit an act of kindness. I was given examples such as buying
a card of encouragement for someone who needed it or to donate the money
to a charity or a program.
I
decided to match the donation, invest in some supplies and make a craft to
sell. Thus the “Ladybug Project” was born. Peter and I went
shopping and picked up the necessary supplies and Crystal (my daughter) and
I spent Sunday afternoon creating the following “Ladybug Pencil”:

These
pencils have a magnet on the back that allows them to stick to your refrigerator
so you never have to search for a pencil again.
Each
pencil costs $1.00 (CAN). The proceeds will be donated to The Catholic Children’s
Aid Society Crown Ward Drop-in Centre. The drop-in centre provides services
to young adults
who have no families. They learn necessary life skills such as budgeting and
meal preparation and they have an opportunity to meet and socialize with their
peers.
Ladybug graphics were supplied through the generosity of Cool Baby Graphics. |
